This I Know

Ephesians 3:17-19 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

A couple of nights ago my oldest son, daughter and I were singing the most well-known child’s song of all time…

“Jesus loves me! this I know,
For the Bible tells me so;
Little ones to Him belong,
They are weak, but He is strong.

Yes, Jesus loves me,
Yes, Jesus loves me;
Yes, Jesus loves me,
The Bible tells me so.”

A simple truth but oh, how it rings true for people of all ages. I sat there and thought how wonderful that my sweet babies, sitting in my lap, who are only two and three, are already understanding the wonderful promise that Jesus loves them…our babysitter was talking to Jake, our oldest son, the other day and said she was sad to which Jake responded, “It’s okay, Jesus loves you;” yet, why do I, an adult, who also learned the song as a little baby, have such a hard time remembering the very fact that Jesus loves me. Oh it’s easy to remember when I am lying in the green pastures referred to in Psalm 23; but it seems to be when I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, also referred to in Psalm 23, I forget so easily that Jesus loves me, this I know…for the Bible tells me so.

I challenge you to look up the other verses to this sweet song – truly the writer understood the breadth, length, depth, and height of God’s love. May the Lord gives each of us that simple, child-like belief of Jesus’ love so that we too may fully understand Christ’s love and as a result be filled with the love of God!

  1. So sweet, Amy! Your babies shared that song with me in the nursery last time I was with them. And there were ten kids in that small space, one of them (visitor) cried for 20 minutes on my hip, things kept threatening to get totally over the top in many areas, yet when we started singing, things would quiet down, again and again. And your oldest two sweet babies stayed with me every time I started to sing . . . They are so lovely and God is so good!
