He continued his career as a computer instructor for an electronics company in East Tennessee where he was an active member of Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church.

When Dr. Altizer was 36 years old, God called him to preach. He moved his family to Greenville, SC, to attend Bob Jones University where he received his undergraduate degree in 1979 and his Master of Ministry degree in 1995. He received an honorary doctorate from Ambassador Baptist College in 1993.

After eight years of ministry as an assistant pastor, Dr. Altizer founded Calvary Baptist Church in Simpsonville, SC, in 1985. God has greatly blessed this church of over 800 members. In 2002, he retired from the pastorate and started “Windows of Heaven Ministries,” a support ministry for missionaries and church planters. The Lord has used this new ministry in many churches both nationally and internationally.
