Where were you on 9-11?

american_flag-971804A few years ago I was scheduled to be the speaker at a Christian school chapel.  After a hymn and prayer, I ascended up to the pulpit at 8:46 a.m.  Before preaching I put on a coon skin cap and did an object lesson with a coon trap.  I was telling the students about wicked and evil men who want to trap and ensnare us.  Also Satan desires to attack us.  We must beware of his attacks.  At the conclusion of that short lesson I pushed a short stick into the trigger mechanism of that trap and allowed the trap to snap shut on the stick.  Sometimes the trap cuts the stick in half.  The effect was dramatic.

Next I stood behind the pulpit (without my historic outfit) and preached a message from the Bible about wicked and evil men who lie in wait to deceive us and to attack us.

It was a few minutes after nine o’clock when I closed in prayer asking God and His Word to keep us safe.  Little did we know at the time that just as I stepped down from the chapel stage the second jet airliner crashed into the second tower of the World Trade Center in New York City.  The date of course was September 11, 2001.  The first plane crashed into the World Trade Center at 8:46 just as I stepped up to the front of the chapel.

Of course we had no idea what was happening in New York, but God did.   He Who knows everything allowed both the chapel message and the object lesson to be about evil men who want to harm us.

In a little while we were in Bible class at school.  Our principal came to the door and asked us to pray for safety and for our country.  He   told us about the two airliners that crashed into the twin towers in New York City and he also informed us that another plane was flying north of us over Pennsylvania.  Our school is only about 15 miles south of the Mason – Dixon line and soon flight 93 crashed in Somerset County, Pennsylvania 73 air miles from our school.

God had answered our prayers and kept us safe.  He had allowed that plane to go down in a remote, rural place where no one on the ground was hurt.  Of course there was also the plane that crashed into the Pentagon.

What a day of infamy we had those years ago.  I thank the Lord that He has kept our homeland so safe in the last few years.  May God continue to bless and protect America.

Yours for God and country,

Dan Manka
