Missions Highlight

“I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth” (III John 4).

During the week of October 13-16, 2013, Miss Amanda Baker was at Calvary Baptist Church in Huntsville, AL, where the Baptist World Mission Annual Meeting was held.  It was an exciting time as she met with three different committees of board members to formally apply  to the mission to be accepted as a missionary appointed by that mission.  (She had filled out a lot of paper work as well as talking to Dr. David Canedy, the Deputation Director, to get to this point.)  There was a candidate application review, a doctrinal examination, and the last meeting was with the entire board (thirty-two pastors and men in full-time work) where she was asked questions, and then voted on (unanimously) to be appointed as a missionary to England with Baptist World Mission.  What a joy it was as her parents to sit back and watch her go through this process!  She is experienced and seasoned.  Many of the men commented on her spirit, willingness, and poise during the meetings.  She will serve the Lord in England with the same fervor and faithfulness as she does here.

A mission board does many things for the missionary.  Although she will be sent out by Tabernacle Baptist Church, the mission board will handle her finances, keep her accountable as she launches out to raise support, send out her prayer letters, and work with local churches to get Amanda to the field as soon as possible.  An informative meeting after the appointment was held for all the new missionaries concerning finances, insurance, contacting churches, and requirements of the missionary as she prepares to begin deputation.

Raising support can sometimes take two-five years.  We are certainly praying that the Lord sends in the support sooner than that so that the Lord can use Amanda in England.  Pray with us that His will be done.  Thank you to so many who have prayed and given to the survey trip!  Please continue to pray as Amanda continues to seek the Lord through the deputation process.  To God be the glory, great things He hath done!
