Thinking of Words

untitledIsaiah 55:8-11

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

Have you ever been in the heat of discussion and then stopped and asked yourself: “Did I really just say that?” Or looking back on a conversation you remember some of your words and wish you could take them back and either not say them or rearrange them in a more suitable sequence? We probably all have been in that situation a time or two in the past, and it will probably happen again.

Do you know what though? God is not that way! The way God thinks is different from the way we think. The way He does things is different from the way we do things. How much different? His thoughts are higher than ours; His ways are better than ours; higher and better on the magnitude of the distance between the heavens and the earth!

To provide a better understanding to the fullness of the difference, the text above provides an example. We all understand the basic cycle of water: water evaporates, forms clouds, the clouds drop the rain, the rain waters the ground and provides nourishment to all of life on the earth; and then the cycle starts over. Over and over again the cycle continues without end and hesitation; the same time and time again, never changing! Just as the rain has a purpose and fulfills that purpose, the Word of God has a purpose and fulfills that purpose.

What purpose is that? The purpose of revealing Himself to man in a method that man has the ability to understand! The purpose is to provide the finite an understanding, a glimpse of the Infinite! The Word of God provides us with a revelation of Who He Is through His workings in the lives of His creation part of which is a reconciliation of our relationship with Him.

That reconciliation comes with a heart of repentance, a mouth of confession, and continues with a life filled with obedience. That is the ONLY way of returning to our God, and it has never changed because His Word has never changed.

Even though our words tend to get messed up, or a sour word is spoken from time to time, God never once spoke a word that did not, has not, or will not fulfill its intended purpose! Those are Words we can think on!
