Ye are the Light of the World

images0E4VYVN1Matthew 5:14-16 – Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.  Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

This time of year is full of fun – memories and traditions, new ones and old ones. One tradition we have tried to maintain with our kids is going out one night and enjoying a treat – hot chocolate or a slurpee, (depending on your age) while driving around and looking at all the different lights.  As we drive by the houses and the kid’s excitement is expressed in sudden bursts of…

“Wow!”

“Oh Momma, look at that one.”

“That one is A-MAZING!”

“Look how bright those lights are…”

my mind begins to wander to this verse – “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid,” and I wonder how bright I have let my light shine over the past year. Has it been so dull to where people only see me – the small shine of a lamp post or is there excitement expressed in sudden bursts and thoughts of JESUS…

“Wow – you can really see Jesus through her.”

“Oh, look at that one – all I see is Jesus.”

“Her Savior is A-MAZING!”

“Look how she shines for Jesus.”

I have been challenged today, not tomorrow or next year, but TODAY, to not only let my community see JESUS, but to let my kids see the LIGHT shine bright in my life – I don’t want it hid by bad attitudes and selfishness. I want them to see the light of JESUS in mommy – in what she does and how she responds. So that one day they will be the LIGHT to their communities and families. How bright are you shining for Jesus? It’s never too late to get alone with God, recharge, and start shining for Him – “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
