Mothering is Hard Work

untitledAnd let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. Galatians 6:9

Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. Proverbs 31:28

I can’t seem to stop thinking of the word “Mom.”  Having just celebrated Mother’s Day with my four kids, I’m reminded that being a mom is hard work, yet rewarding. My mind wanders to the meaning of “mom.” The dictionary defines a mom as someone who brings a child up with care and affection. To me, that’s a broad definition – being a mom takes putting yourself last to better the future lives of your kids. I had the privilege of growing up with such a person, and I’m striving to do the same for my four little ones; but it doesn’t come without tears and sweat!!!! I want my kids to remember me as someone who cared for them, yes; but more than that, I want them to see Jesus in that care and affection of them. They are watching more often than I realize. When I think of a mother, these adjectives come to mind –

EXAMPLE of Christlikeness

      JOYFUL in all tasks

     STRONG physically, mentally, & emotionally

       HUMBLE

      SELFLESS

   BORN AGAIN

I can certainly work on these areas. No matter if you have/had a good mom, had a bad mom, or are a daughter without kids, we can all strive to be this kind of example to others around us. It’s not easy…but if we stay close to Jesus, we will reap benefits that we can’t even imagine.
